BorrowMyDoggy borrowers often join as they unable to have one of their own, due to lack of time or space. However, they would be so happy take care of a local pooch because they miss the fun, affection and comfort that man’s best friends provides. £12.99/ year to join as a dog borrower – find local dog owners who need help walking their dogs! Central London Outdoor Group

CLOG is a friendly outdoor activity group for people living in and around London. 

They are happy to welcome anyone who enjoys walking, cycling, hillwalking, exploring our countryside and other outdoor activities. The club is run by its members for its members. All members are welcome to organise events. They also have an active monthly social programme including barn dancing and visits to pubs, restaurants, exhibitions, plays and films.

People of any age are welcome to join but the majority of current members are in their late 30s to 50s.

There are typically around four to eight events every week. People are welcome to attend three events to try out the group; after that they are asked to join. The membership fee for one year is £15 for new members.

HASfit

A fitness service that provides free, on-line workout routines for people of all abilities to perform in their own home. Includes programs for people entirely new to exercise, with limited mobility, or who experience pain.

Also provides healthy recipes and meal plan. Videos are delivered in a gently encouraging matter via their website or a free, downloadable app. Highly recommended for all.

Healthwise: GP Physical Activity Referral Scheme

Healthwise is a 12 week programme available to K&C residents affected by a range of health conditions – including mental illness. Based at the Chelsea Sport and Kensington Leisure Centres it is designed to encourage people of all abilities to become and remain more physically active and improve health and wellbeing.

Referral is by GP or Practice Nurses. Patients will then be able to access specially trained and experienced staff who provide one-to-one exercise support. Gym membership is heavily discounted.

Healthy Hearts

Free local community based health improvement sessions including weight management, healthy cookery classes and physical activity sessions. Patients need to be eligible to be referred i.e. deemed high risk of developing cardiovascular disease (e.g diabetic, HIV positive, erectile dysfunction, BMI > 30, TIAs, PVD, cardiovascular risk score of >10%). Self referral is accepted.

K&C Active for Life

Programme of low cost and free sports, health and fitness classes and activities for adults run by Kensington and Chelsea Borough Council. Activities include health walks, football, badminton, dance classes and aerobics among others. Prices vary but average fee is £2.10 per session

K&C Specialist Weight Management Service

Supports people with severe obesity (BMI >35kg/m² with co-morbidities, or >40kg/m² without) to lose weight and improve their health. The team consists of Dieticians, a Physiotherapist, a Clinical Psychologist and a Physician, all with specialist skills in managing obesity. Can do home visits.

Patients referred to the service are supported by the team for up to two years to make sure that the education and skills to support weight maintenance are provided. Health professionals can refer via online form.

SASH

Not for profit organisation that promotes good sexual health and wellbeing and works in close partnership with community reproductive health, contraception STI screening and HIV treatment services to ensure accessible and responsive services for all. Based in Earl’s Court Health Centre. They work with:

  • Those wanting to change behaviours affecting their sexual health
  • Those living with HIV – including newly diagnosed
  • LGBT and BAME communities

  • Those affected by domestic abuse
